Yes! You can buy cryptocurrencies without Bitcoin. There are 3 main ways to buy cryptocurrencies without Bitcoin. You can either buy cryptocurrencies directly with fiat, convert a cryptocurrency to another cryptocurrency or use a crypto ATM.
As you know, Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency, but unfortunately, it is not the fastest cryptocurrency out there. Bitcoin can only pass a maximum of 7 transactions per second. Ripple (XRP) on the other hand can pass 1500 transactions per second. And there are many cryptocurrencies that are much faster than Bitcoin.
Slow transaction speed is why I don’t use Bitcoin as much. Although, there could be many reasons why someone wants to ditch Bitcoin for another cryptocurrency. If you don’t like bitcoin, there are ways to buy other cryptocurrencies without owning a single Bitcoin. This is how you do it:
1) Buy Cryptocurrencies with Fiat
There are multiple exchanges that allow you to buy cryptocurrencies with fiat. Bitcoin is one of the coins that can be bought from these exchanges, but fortunately, it is not the only coin. Some exchanges support only the major coins while some support buying over 200+ coins. These are some of those exchanges:
Binance – You can buy Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, and Bitcoin Cash using this exchange. Takes a fee of 3.5% or a flat $10 fee. Visa and MasterCard accepted.
Bitquick – Here you buy directly from other sellers. Only Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash are supported. Takes a fee of 2%. Not as quick as other exchanges.
Cex – You can use this exchange to buy Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold, Dash, Litecoin, Ripple, Stellar, and Zcash. This exchange has very low fees compared to other exchanges. No fees for bank transfers, and a 2.99% fee for card purchases.
Changelly – This exchange supports buying over 140+ cryptocurrencies with credit/debit cards. Changelly is connected to multiple exchanges. The goal of Changelly is to get the best price for you from these exchanges. Takes a very low fee of 0.5%.
Coinbase – Coinbase is probably the easiest way to buy cryptocurrency. They support buying Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Ripple, and Litecoin. This is a trading platform as well as a wallet. 3.99% fee for card purchases and no fee for bank transfers.
Coinmama – This is a platform built specifically for cryptocurrency purchases. You can buy Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Ripple, Bitcoin Cash, Cardano, Qtum, and Ethereum classic with a credit/debit card. LocalCryptos – This is a peer-to-peer exchange for Ethereum only. Meaning, you buy directly from other sellers. You can buy Ehereum using multiple payment methods like PayPal, Ali Pay, Western Union, Cash deposit, gift cards, etc. LocalCryptos charges a fee of 0.25% from the seller and 0,75% from the buyer.
LocalMonero – Peer-to-peer exchange for Monero. There is no fee for buyers. However, transactions to other Monero wallets come with a small network fee. There are over 35+ payment methods supported by sellers, including card and bank transfers.
2) Convert Cryptocurrencies to other cryptocurrencies.
An alternate way to buy cryptocurrencies without any bitcoins is to convert cryptocurrencies you already own. This is self-explanatory. All you need to do is convert cryptocurrencies using an exchange. These are the best exchanges to convert cryptocurrencies:
Changelly – Easily the quickest and cheapest way to convert your cryptocurrencies. Supports over 140+ coins.
Binance – This is a very popular exchange. Has a variety of coins with varying transaction and withdrawal fees.
Coinbase – Safest way to convert your coins. Unfortunately, only a few cryptocurrencies are supported.
3) Using Cryptocurrency ATMs
The last way to buy cryptocurrencies without Bitcoin is by using a cryptocurrency ATM. Majority of cryptocurrency ATMs only allow buying and selling of Bitcoin.
